Creative Rhythm | Ages 3-5 | 45 min. This class is a fun introduction to dance! These dancers get to explore dance using props, musical instruments and free expression. The students also learn basic ballet, how to follow directions and the value of participating in a group. |
Creative Rhythm Tap | Age 5 | 45 min. This is a progression of the Creative Rhythm class. This class reinforces the ballet basics and gives an introduction to Tap. Tap is a great way for students to learn to find and follow the beat of the music, among other valuable skills. |
Pre Ballet | Ages 6-7 | 60 min. This is where the fundamentals of Ballet are introduced. Students are taught basic terminology combined with exercises building strength and flexibility. This class creates a strong foundation not only for future Ballet classes, but for all other types of dance. |
Ballet | Ages 8-Adult | 60 min. This class is a discipline form of graceful movement with an emphasis of strength, flexibility and balance. Since ballet is the basis of all dance, this course helps create a strong foundation for the dancer. |
Ballet/Prepointe | Ages 13-Adult | 1hr 30min. or 2hrs. This class is for the serious Ballet student. It is an intense class emphasizing technique, strengthening, flexibility and balance. This class is designed to enhance skilled dancers and to further develop the technique of those interested in pointe. Students must be approved by the Babylon Staff to enroll in this class. |
Modern | Ages 8-Adult | 60 min. Modern is an alternate technique to ballet with a different focus on strength, flexibility and muscle awareness. Modern focuses on such things as strength in movement, control and losing control, spatial awareness and imagery. It also explores creativity and self-expression. |
Contemporary
| Ages 14-Adult | 60 min. Contemporary dance is a fusion of Classical Ballet, Jazz and Modern techniques with a focus on floorwork. While stressing versatility and improvisation, Contemporary strives to create an emotional connection between the dancer, the movement and the music. |
Jazz | Ages 6-Adult | 60min. Jazz is a popular technique. It’s usually dynamic and faster paced and incorporates isolation of body parts. Jazz helps develop such skills as jumps/leaps, turns, strength and flexibility. It is also a great stepping stone to Hip Hop and/or Dance team skills. It is frequently used in musicals, television shows and music videos. |
Hip Hop | Ages 8-Adult | 60 min. Hip Hop dance is a variety of urban styles created in an enjoyable social setting which evolved into Hip Hop technique. In Hip Hop class students will learn and practice techniques such as tutting, gliding, waving and basic breaking skills. The instructor will teach choreography as seen on popular TV shows, movies and on Broadway. Students will work on isolations and flexibility but emphasis will be placed on musicality and performance skills. Dancers will learn to alternate between hitting the beat or moving through the beat while enjoying some of their favorite music. Studio Hip Hop is choreographed but what distinguishes this dance form is that it its often freestyle (improvisational) in nature. So bring your own groove and get down with your bad self! |
