Classes Descriptions
Creative Rhythm
ages 3 - 5
45 min. Ages 3-5. Emphasis is on natural movement, free expression, learning to participate in a group and following directions. This class also teaches balance, coordination and their right from left. This class also serves as a small introduction to ballet steps.
Creative Rhythm with Tap
age 5
45 min. This is a progression of the Creative Rhythm class. With an introduction to Tap the students learn to follow the beat of the music.
PreBallet ages 6 - 7 60 min. This is where the fundamentals of Ballet are introduced. Students are taught basic terminology combined with exercises building strength and flexibility. This class creates a strong foundation for future Ballet classes.
Ballet
ages 8 to adult
60 min. This class is a discipline form of graceful movement with an emphasis on strength, flexibility and balance. Since ballet is the basis of all dances, this course helps create a strong foundation for the dancer.
Int. Ballet 3 ages 13 to adult 1 hr. 45 min. This class is for the serious Ballet student. It is an intense class that starts with an hour warm up, emphasizing technique and finishes with a 45-minute pointe/strengthening class. Students must be approved by the Babylon staff to enroll in this class.
Pointe ages 13 - adult 45 min. Pointe work is the end result of slow, gradual training of the whole body. This includes back, hips, thighs, leg, feet and the coordination of movement and the placing of the body. This study must be done carefully, intelligently and at the right time when the teacher feels her serious student is physically and mentally ready.
Modern
ages 8 - adult
60 min. Incorporating creativity and self-expression, these classes have a slower and more strenuous warm-up. Modem focuses on such things as strength in movement, control and losing control, spatial awareness and imagery.
Tap
ages 6 - adult
60 min. Emphasizes footwork and the expression of rhythm through sound.
Jazz
ages 6 - adult
60 min. Jazz is the most popular technique. Its usually faster and often incorporates isolation of body parts. It is frequently used in musicals, television shows and music videos.
Hip Hop (jazz)
ages 8 - adult
60 min. Hip Hop is not only Jazz, but also a combination of many other influences. To name a few: Street Funk, martial arts, and sports. This type of dance is most commonly seen in music videos.
Required Dance Wear

Girls
All Creative Rhythm, Creative Rhythm with Tap and all Ballet students must wear black body suits with pink tights. Jazz and Tap students must wear black unitards, black leotards with black jazz pants, black biker shorts or dancer shorts over tights. Modern students dress is the same except no long pants. Company students must follow the relevant dancewear rules but have the privilege to wear other appropriate colors. NO TEE SHIRTS ALLOWED.

Boys
Gym shorts or jazz pants, tank top or t-shirt and a dance belt for all boys 11 and older.

Jazz Black jazz shoes (no jazz sneakers)
Hip Hop Black jazz shoes or hip hop sneakers
Tap Black tap shoes
Modern Barefeet
Ballet and creative rhythm Pink ballet shoes
Creative rhythm with tap Black tap shoes and pink ballet shoes

Appearance

  • Hair must always be kept off the face with a headband or barettes. Students with long hair must wear it up, tied back in a bun, braids, ponytail or pigtails.
  • Students must wear required dress every week to class.

Class rules

  • Students must arrive at least 10 minutes before class begins and conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times.
  • No chewing gum or eating candy during classes.
  • Students must remain in the lobby until their class is called.
  • All clothing and dancing equipment must be marked with the student's name.
  • Parents are never to interrupt or interfere with a dance class.
  • PSC and Babylon will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items.
